Introduction
By Silkius Maxipus (Chief Guild Master)
The Literary Cat Guild is a prestigious Guild. To which,
only cats that have excelled in the areas of art and literature may be
awarded an honored position of membership. In our hallowed halls will
be inscribed the names of our honored members. Be they: Poets, Artists,
or Bards, Playwrights, Novelists or Jesters. So that others may recognise
their talents. And in that recognition, may they themselves strive to
bring the world of Feline art and Literature into new heights. For it
shall be written that:
|
|
|
|
|
"These Cats shall show the Humans that they are not
alone in the world of culture."
"And in the course of these events may the crass and unworthy works
of the awkward and those works that do bring a pain to the eyes when observed.
Be forever cast into the depths of that oblivion, known as obscurity.
So that we may in our twilight years know only works of beauty and peace,
and that which makes us smile and laugh".
OK so I've read the bumpf, and know that I am more than good enough
to join. So now what do I do?
Well you could start by reading the Guild FAQ
Then you read the rules and the apply by following the links.

The Literary Cat Guild FAQ
- Why?
We ask ourselves that question a lot. Basically it all started when;
we got fed up with searching through the various Web-Rings looking for
'Good' Cat related sites. Being Felines our on-line time is limited.
(As is our attention span) So we thought we would try and collect some
of the best together. Then when you want to just 'surf' fine. But if
you want to read some good stories, have a laugh, or go Wow! at the
pictures, you come here. Or jump on our Web-Ring.
- What have you got against normal Cat Web-Sites?
Nothing, we like most Cat Sites. But as we said our on-line time is
limited. When we want to view a site about some-cat, written by a human
we do. This Guild is about finding the rich content sites, that are
full of original stories and ideas.
- Um... what is a Guild anyway?
Well in days of yore, Guilds were set up by Craftsman and Merchants
to show would be purchasers that the goods or services on offer were
of the highest quality and worthy of the price asked. They are still
in existence today; Goldsmiths, Brewers and Farriers (Black Smiths)
still have Guilds and they are still recognised as being superior Craftsmen.
We are trying to do the same here. We want to gather the 'Cream' of
Feline-Web-Sites, so guests will know that any link they click in 'The
Hall of Honour' Will take them to a good site, that will hopefully provide
them with hours of entertainment.
- How do you join a guild?
Well again in days of yore. You signed on as apprentice, then slowly
progressed through the ranks as: Senior Apprentice, Journeyman, Journeyman
Master, Master, Grand Master then possibly finally Guild Master. Each
level was attained by proving that you could accomplish varying degrees
of skill throughout your chosen profession. (i.e. A Master Goldsmith,
could smelt, cast, engrave, sculpt and produce alloys (Alchemy) and
so produce works of the Highest Quality.
Not to worry here you just apply for membership. We go and have a peek
at your site, check that it is a good one and doesn't make us want to
vomit. Then we enter you into the ranks.
- Have you thought about having sections and stages for
the Guild?
Yep we thought about it. We liked the idea but; we also decided that
it would require different Shields and Heralds, and classes. For it
would require schools of: Writing, Art, Music and Foolery etc., With
someone to run it and come up with the Standards requirements it would
take up a lot of time. If you want to volunteer to help run that, let
us know. We would like to progress to this, but to be honest we haven't
the time.
- So what do I get if I join?
Good Question: If you are accepted into the guild (It isn't that hard,
Honest.) You will get:
- Your chosen name (Up to twelve characters.) Will be entered on one
of the shields you see here. And yes we will allow you to choose a shield
colour if you wish.)
- Your name and a link to your site will be entered into the roll of
honour. So visitors to the Guild may see that you are a member and view
your site from there. (Only guild members will get onto the roll. So
copied graphics with a name inserted will not get the links.)
- You will be sent the graphic herald of your choice, with your name
entered on the top banner. (These may be quite large but they are only
small in file size. (And they look good.)
- You will also be sent a copy of your shield and if requested a certificate
proving your acceptance.(These will be sent as attachments to your acceptance
e-mail) Then you can print out the Certificate and make your humans
frame it and hang it on the wall. So when you have visitors you can
brag about how clever you are.
- Then if you wish to link to the guild via Felidae Etc. you may let
others see the honoured place. In which your name is held.
- If you are a member of the guild joining the Literary cat Web ring
is a mere formality (And Vice Versa)

7. So how do
I join?
I Thought you would never ask.
You click on the link to the rules, read them, digest them, sick em
up on the sofa. Then click on the Link to the Application Page. Fill
in the form, or e-mail me with the details. Then we come over and go
through your site with a fine flea comb, make sure it is what you say
it is, and is suitable for the Guild.
Then if it passes, we send you your personalised shield herald and Certificate.
When you receive it you run around the house shouting:
"I am a Guild Member now, So kneel before your Master/Mistress
when you address me!"
Then when you realise, no-one takes any notice of you. You put your
shield/herald on your site, link to us and print out the Certificate
to pin on the wall, dog or whatever. Meanwhile we put your shield here
in the 'Entrance Hall', and in 'The Hall of Honour' From where we link
it to your site.
