Through the: Cat - Flap With Draco

Hello Cat People, I am Draco and we have not spoken before but I am writing to tell everyone that I have discovered a great new hobby- LAUNDRY! Now I know what you are thinking. You are thinking that clothes are a decidedly human phenomena and animals have no reason or excuse to be fooling around with clothes. For the most part, I would say that you are right. I believe clothes are unnecessary for cats to wear. Why would I want to cover up my beautiful fur with clothes anyway? But humans do not have any fur and I think that they might need clothes to keep warm. The wonderful point about clothes is that they are great fun things. The bad part is that they come with very noisy machines that seem to run for a very long time. One machine makes the dry clothes wet and the other machine makes the wet clothes dry. Aren't humans odd creatures? They wear the clothes then take them off, put them in the wetting machine, then when they are wet enough they put them in the drying machine, then when they are dry enough, they fold them up nice and pretty. Then the next day they unfold fold them, wear them, and start the entire cycle over again. It just seems like a lot of trouble to me - this clothes business. Don't you think! Well I digress. When my lady gets all the clothes from that big hamper and starts to load them in the wetting machine, I like to supervise and make sure she gets it all done properly. I sit and watch and occasionally will look into the machine to make sure she has them sorted out correctly. I stick my nose in....being very careful not to slip and get wet....and watch the water flow and making sure all the while that everything is as it should be. When the laundry is finished wetting the real fun begins. My lady will open the dryer door and I get to play in the lint trap at the front of drying machine. It is great fun and tastes good too. My Lady has a fit about me eating the lint. So I grab a bite to run from her so I can get a good swallow before she pries my mouth open and takes my lint snack away. Then after she steals my snack, she will say, "Bad Draco, Bad kitty", as if I was doing something wrong by stealing a bit of a snack. Well, it doesn't deter me....I go right back and play in the dryer. Though I must admit it is more fun before it has wet clothes in it than after. After I have played a bit, My Lady will close the door to the drying machine and turn it on. Wow! What a noise! That is the worst part of laundry. When the clothes are dry comes the best part. My lady opens the drying machine and my lint snack is all warm then and we have to do that scenario again where I get chased and my lint snack get stolen. Then my lady will take out all those nice warm clothes and carry them to the living room and dump them on the couch to be folded. Oh, how I love to help fold! First I jump right in the middle of the pile and stick my head in the pile to sniff. Clean clothes smell so good! Then I burrow in like a mole in a hole and hide. Nothing but my nose sticking out and my whiskers! It is warm and comfortable in there and when someone tries to move me, I swat them on the hand! Then I help sort...I sort laundry by pushing them from inside the pile outside and off the edge of the couch onto the floor. Then I pounce on them and drag them all about scattering them over the living room rug. When my lady tries to pick them up, I act as if they were a good toy (which they are) and I attack them and bite the clothes and scratch at them. Eventually I let her have one...but not without a fight for every one! They are such great fun! Then I go back to the pile and push more out onto the floor. When my lady gets one folded I like to root around in it and try to get inside and unfold it for her. Sometimes I lay on them for a while to soak up that good smell. When I get tired I go and lay on My Lady's favorite shirt and sleep. Laundry is tiring business I think. Of course I like to make sure that whatever I sleep on isn't folded yet and is the only thing left. When my lady tries to retrieve it, I stretch out and close my eyes and sometimes I slap at her (just playfully) for interrupting my nap with laundry. So there you have it for what it is worth. Laundry is great fun all around. I must be going now. I have a lot of work to do keeping everyone in the house in line. I swear a kitty's work is never done. Treats and Feathers, Draco
